I volunteered - in my second year of college - to develop a new content management system, and help manage the campus' computing infrastructure. The development portion required me to learn PHP and the network management portion brought me in instant contact with iptables, postfix, openLDAP, apache et al. In essence, I had to learn all of this if I had to continue volunteering :) | |||
