MES College of Engineering is a lead contributer to the FOSS activities in malapuram. Has lots of projects going on within the campus by the final year students. Some of the noted projects are,

1. Hurd installer - (kiran and his group in final year IT took this as their acadamic project and is fast completing.)
2. Malayalam OCR - (a project which started as his acadamic project for the third yesr by Antony, final year CSE. Now he is developing it for the Swathantra Malayalam Community.)
3. Village Office Automation - (Also an acadamic project by Abdul Asfar K.P, Binoy P, Jinesh K.J, Mohd. Riyas A.P & Mohd. Suhail Rehman of final year CSE. aimed at developing a free software alternative for the current village office automation software from microsoft.)
