GNULabs

GNULabs is a initiative of local community based on college, which aims for the development of science, technology, computer and freedom. A special preference will be given to the works related which will benefit the whole community.The lab is one which supports the free software idea forwarded by the Free Software Foundation and the GNU Project and supports the concept of the software being free.

The first practical implementation of this GNULabs will be there at Vidya Academy of Science and Technology,Thalakkotukara, Thrissur from Novemeber 2006.

Note : The GNULabs not officially supported by the GNU project or FSF till now.

The GNULabs aims :

  • Improvement of Free softwares.
  • Creation of free softwares.
  • Public awareness of the benefits and need of free softwares
  • Supporting the students inside campus for doing there final year project in and as free software.

GNULabs law [G L L]

These are set of laws which we wish the lab volunteers has to follow;the laws are not to restrict the benefits instead to make the freedom a standard for the future lab works.

  1. Every software used in the GNULabs will be a free software
  2. Every software which is released by the Lab will be a free software and will be released under GNU GPL Version 2 or later.
  3. All the documents/manuals relased by the GNULabs will be under GFDL.
  4. The Lab supports only Free Software that will run on Free Operating Systems.
  5. The Lab support those projects which will be released as a free software and which runs on free software.
  6. Only free file formats will be used in the lab for all needs.
  7. The name of individuals who worked for a specific project will be shown along with it and the copyright of the softwares developed will be shared with the GNULabs and the developers.
  8. Localisation will be done only for the free softwares and as specified above which works on free operating system
  9. No usage of non_free softwares will be allowed within the lab.
  10. We welcome the support,funding and contributions from outside communities,companies and groups but we are not willing to change these G L L for them

Supporting communites
