We're turning the digital divide into digital dividends using free content and open networks. We hope you can help us:

WikiEducator (www.wikieducator.org) is a community resource supported by the Commonwealth of Learning (CoL) for the development of free educational content. It is an evolving online community intended for the collaborative (www.col.org):

  • planning of education projects linked with the development of free content;
  • development of free content on WikiEducator for eLearning;
  • building of open education resources (OERs) on how to create OERs; and
  • networking on funding proposals developed as free content.

COL launched WikiEducator in 2006 and its use is growing rapidly with the number of registered users passing the 1500 mark and number of visits per month now exceeding 80,000. WikiEducator creates online communities whose members participate from remote locations to create educational content collaboratively (e.g., the Virtual University for Small States of the Commonwealth and other free educational content), and to plan conferences and other events. The site provides an online transnational workspace for a variety of educational purposes and is free for anyone to use. All materials submitted to WikiEducator are licensed under the Creative Commons CC-BY-SA 2.5 copyright license which permits copying, editing and free reuse of the materials, with attribution.

Many capacity building regional workshops have been held to expand the OER community, among them an Indian chapter was establish. Please refer to: http://www.wikieducator.org/FLOSS4Edu
